Book Description

Mrs Sarah Hale (1788-1879) was a remarkable American lady. For 40 years she edited 'Godey's Lady's Book', the most influential American magazine published in the 19th century, where she insisted on publishing American writers when most other American periodicals were reprinting British articles. Her significant contribution to American culture included being an arbiter of taste, actively encouraging the higher education of women, opposing slavery and being credited with making Thanksgiving a national holiday
