Covers are brown cloth with pattern on both sides and gilt lettering for the title on spine. All edges have been tinted a light brown to blend in with the colours of the covers. 8vo, x pps + 688 pps. + 8 pps ‘List of Recent Works’. Book includes 44 b&w plates incl frontispiece as a concertinaed map of The Victoria Falls with a small tear at the top next to the spine & a b&w photo of David Livingstone next to p1; there are 2 maps - 1 is of South Africa which has several folds and has a small tear at top next to spine, and the other being a folded map in a pocket on the inside of the back cover; this is a Detailed Map of Rev Dr Livingstone’s Route across Africa and is in vg order. The spine has some snags at the top & bottom and the 4 corners are a little bumped. There is sign of a repair at the top of the left spine where it has been restuck to the back cover - the repair is about 4” down the spine. The inside front spine is strong and intact but there are some very slight signs of cracking on the inside back spine. There is a signature & date in black ink on the inside front cover also some pencil notes on inside and back pages; there is some very occasional foxing but very little. By and large the book is in very good condition and the pages are clean and very easily readable. Book is 168 years old. Book weighs 1.25kg.
