Cover slightly rubbed, internally very good. By looking at the book, we can get an excellent idea of Mr Wilmshurt s diet and the prices of foodstuffs at the end of the nineteenth century. Goods were bought most days of the year, and the most frequently occurring items are bacon, cheese, lard, suet, flour, sausages, tongue, ham, butter, sugar, lemons, eggs, jars of cream, nutmeg, pepper, chillies, and other sices, sardines, anchovies, rice, pearl barley, seed cake, bottles of brandy, Martells cognac, gin, ale, jam, jelly, marmalade, and so on. Other items include figs, crumpets, gauntlets, soup, Chablis, and cocoa nuts. The receipts are pasted in throughout. A fascinating snapshot of social history, and all the more interesting in that prices are indicated for each item.
