Book Description

LITTLETON, Thomas, Sir Littletons Tenures in English, lately perused and amended. London: printed [by Adam Islip?] for the Companie of Stationers, 1612. Small 8vo, ff 141 [of 142], [2]. Lacks last leaf of text, but two final contents leaves present. No printer: Islip is suggested by STC. Loose in contemporary vellum, binding very darkened, several early mathematical calculations to inner binding, no endpapers present, small piece (name) cut from top of title page without loss, title page dusty, a little browned, some light staining toward end, but all pages intact. Signature to verso of final leaf in secretarial hand, The Right Honourable the Lord James Cavendish. Early marginal annotation, correction or note to f24v, f66v, f79v, f49v, f62r, f76v, f77v, f95r (this seemingly written over), f96r, f112v, occasional hatching to margins. Littleton s famous treatise begins with Fee Simple, and goes on to cover the successively more complex forms of ownership and tenure. An interesting and attractive piece of early seventeenth century printing, in black letter, from the time of James 1. Please note faults, but priced accordingly. ESTC S2197.
