Dealer Notes
A late 19th century text on Spiritualism, written by Augustus Johnston and published by James Burns in London. A rare work, no trace of this book exists on WorldCat or Library Hub. In 'Letters', Johnston — perhaps an early Irish Spritualist — sets out his thoughts on the subject and philosophy of Spritualism, a movement which reached its peak growth in membership from the 1840s to the 1920s, especially in English-speaking countries. By 1897, it was said to have more than eight million followers in the United States and Europe, mostly drawn from the middle and upper classes.
