Superb colour plate work by Melchers employing his style of Japonism and Art Nouveau to depict the seasons in the Low Countries, i.e. Belgium and The Netherlands. Melchers was a pupil of Jan Toorop, who was also influenced by Japonism. This is the only book that Melchers illustrated. One of a thousand copies of the regular edition on wove paper, from an edition of 1070 copies in all. Contains 16 full-color illustrations of Belgian-Dutch scenes by Franz Melchers to accompany Braun's cycle of poems about the changing seasons.
