Note: White won the 1983 Prix Médicis étranger for La Route bleue. The winner the previous year had been Umberto Eco for The Name of the Rose. The Blue Road which covers White's adventures on a trip he made from Montreal to Labrador was first published in English by Mainstream in 1990.
