This is a Near Fine Copy of this book in a Fine Binding,Quarter red calf over marbled boards with black moproccan title label the second compartment along spine.There are five raised bands to the spine with a superb map to endpapers depicting the Jungle trails in Northern India.Complete with 24 plates and a map.The book obviously came from the Bengal Club at some stage as there it's 2 ink stamps in place to the half title and also title pages.The Bengal club was a social club in Kolkata West Bengal opened in 1827 and built in a colonial style and it served the tradition of both British and Bengal culture.Sir John Hewett was an administrator in India, with a passion for big game hunting. He wrote this memoir in 1938 when he returned to England. The book offers a detailed account of his adventures in the jungles of Tarai, Gooch Behar, the Central Provinces, and up north in Kumaon and Garhwal. In reading of his descriptions of his travels. He travelled a great deal with his younger daughter Lorna, who was an intrepid hunter in her own right and even returned with him to India in 1926-27. The last chapter in this book is about Lorna's unchaperoned trek, to Leh in 1921.
