First UK edition, in second state binding. 8vo. pp. viii, 124, 8 (ads.); 3 diags. to text; very good in the original cloth, lettered in white. Ownership inscription of D. W Sciama, 1948, with two minor corrections to the text (possibly in his hand).
Dealer Notes
Edited with notes by R. Fürth, translated by A. D. Cowper. The book collects five papers by Einstein on the subject from the years 1905-8. Copies were initially issued in a binding lettered in gilt, and later in a binding lettered in white. This copy belonged to Dennis W. Sciama (1926-99), author of Modern Cosmology (1971), who studied at Cambridge and Oxford, where his students included Stephen Hawking, Martin Rees, and John Barrow.
