Folio. 9 volumes, set. First editions. Original quarter blue buckram with blue cloth boards, ruled and lettered in gilt. (The blue of the buckram used varies owing to the length of time between publications.) All edges gilt and marbled endpapers (with the exception of Periods I. and II. Vol. II.). Illustrated throughout with black and white photographs. All covers slightly rubbed and with bumping to bottom corners on most volumes. Periods I. and II. Vol. II. has a neat ink ownership on the fly. Period V. Vol. I. has several loose pages in the Introduction, two of which are detached and one of those has been repaired with sellotape. This volume VG+, all other volumes near fine.

Henry Avray Tipping (1855-1933) was the architectural editor for Country Life for seventeen years. The complete set comprises: Period I. Vol. I. Norman & Plantaganet, 1066-1485; Period II. Vol. I. Early Tudor, 1485-1558; Periods I. and II. Vol. II. Mediaeval and Early Tudor, 1066-1558; Period III. Vol. I. Late Tudor and Early Stuart, 1558 - 1649; Period III. Vol. II. Late Tudor and Early Stuart, 1558-1649; Period IV. Vol. I. Late Stuart, 1649-1714; Period IV. Vol. II. The Work of Sir John Vanbrugh and his School, 1699-1736 (with Christopher Hussey); Period V. Vol. I. Early Georgian, 1714-1760; Period VI. Vol. I. Late Georgian, 1760-1820. With the exception of the faults mentioned, this is an especially nice set in first edition.
