Book of Common Prayer
Book Description
Hardback. Full leather binding decorated in gilt to both boards and the spine, with brass trim to the edges and a sturdy and functioning brass clasp. Gilt to all edges. 4.5" x 3" x 2" (11.5 cm x 8 cm x 5 cm). It is inscribed to E. Julia Tyrwhitt-Drake on 8th August 1843 which was the date of her marriage (Elizabeth Julia Wedderburn’s (neé Stratton) marriage to Thomas Tyrwhitt-Drake). The Tyrwhitt-Drakes were a prominent family in Amersham.
Brass is securely attached to the book and the clasp functions well. The brass is a little tarnished and has a slight bend to the top edge. The leather has a few dark marks including a linear mark to the front. There is the beginning of a crack to the front external joint. A very attractive Book of Common Prayer.
