Book Description
This is a signed presentation copy of “Auld Robin The Farmer” by Her Royal Highness The Princess Louise and Walter Douglas Campbell and published by David Douglas, Edinburgh in 1894. The book was presented by The Princess Louise to Sir John McNeill for Xmas 1894 as can be seen in the scan. The Princess Louise was the sixth child and fourth daughter of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert and married the Marquis of Lorne, the heir to the Duke of Argyll. Sir John McNeill was a senior British Army officer who was awarded the Victoria Cross for an action during the New Zealand Wars and who later became an Equerry to Queen Victoria. The book has 15 pages of text and is illustrated with sketches by Princess Louise which all have tissue guards. The bevelled boards are scruffy and rubbed and bumped at the edges and corners, however the contents are fine with no marks other than the presentation inscription. If you have any questions about the book or its content please email me.
