First edition. 12mo. Two volumes in one. Pp 236; [15]; 417 [15]. Collated complete and correct. Regarded as a false imprint: probably printed by H. van Bulderen at The Hague. Early signature to title page; Joannis Ludovici Routier Dupare, with a note in the same hand opposite to fly leaf verso. Small twentieth century bookplate to front pastedown. Contemporary calf, elaborately gilt spine, contrasting label, edges speckled, internally very clean.

An excellent example of the first edition in an exactly contemporary binding. Gatien de Courtilz de Sandras was a French novelist, adventurer, and vivid essayist, whose work inspired Dumas’ depiction of D’Artagnon. ~ POST FREE ~
