WW1 Embroidery on silk “ Souvenir of Egypt” approx 43 cm x 33.5 cm with flags of the combatant nations. Photograph of an anonymous Australian soldier slipped into the padded central frame. Very Good condition, a few minor insect holes near the bottom edge , light staining only, the majority of the colours crisp and bright. Souvenirs like this were probably sold to troops stationed in Egypt to be sent home to loved ones. Troops from Australia, India and Britain were stationed in Ismailia and Cairo and Alexandria were places used as rest camps and equipment depots.
