Book Description

First edition. 8vo, pp. vi, 82. original paper boards, with label to front Newman s Hebrew Grammar, price 5s 6d, spine worn, early ownership signature Martha, 23rd October 1828 to front board, bookplate of the War Memorial Tiverton Library to front paste-down, slightly marked to outside, internally a clean, uncut copy. Extensively ANNOTATED in the same hand to leaves 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, and further throughout. The annotations are mostly additional grammatical information, and neat and detailed. One possibility is that this was used as a text book in Newman s lessons, and Martha, the student, added notes. Either way, a very interesting and rare item, showing how a women student was learning at the time (presumably privately?).
