Thick oblong 4to. 223 engraved maps with details of tenancies for the extensive holdings of the Downshire Estates. Full red morocco, gilt, all edges gilt. A couple of the maps with some childish crayon scribbles, a little silverfish damage to final free end paper.
Dealer Notes
Edward James Harty, lithographer, was commissioned to produce views of a number of Irish country houses, but he obviously also printed detailed estate maps used for identifying tenants and extents of individual farms and holdings.
Although printed, it is likely that very few copies were issued, and probably for the use of the estate, which was vast. Arthur, the 6th Marquess of Downshire, owned 78,051 acres of land in County Down, 15,766 acres in County Wicklow, 13,679 in the King's County, 5,787 in County Antrim, as well as 5,287 in Berkshire, 1,338 in County Kildare, and 281 acres in Suffolk.
No locations traced.
