Book Description

Set of weather charts from October 1859 prepared by Capt Robert Fitzroy to prove that storms at sea could be predicted. He had these printed to convince the Meteorological Office that weather observations could be used to predict storms and was the forerunner of the Shipping Forecast. The maps used were from the days of the famous Royal Charter Storm of 1859 when 800 lives and 133 ships were lost. Spine missing from the bound volume and a couple of the maps are torn without loss.
