Full tan calf, fine gilt ruled spine compartments, spine label lacking, attractive double blind roll borders to boards. Gently rubbed, corners bruised, boards scuffed. Ditching Library Society label to front pastedown, “T. Fieldwick [?]” stamped in black above, PO name discretely covered with clipped blank paper on ffep, some foxing, occasional pencil scoring and notes, regular trio of fine holes to inner margins, a few tears. Else, clean and tight.

A smart, if scuffed, first edition copy of the third volume of Charles Knight’s Vegetable Substances: Materials of Manufactures, featuring a Ditchling Library Society label claiming this book as “No. 171” and outlining its officious Rules and Regulations: “I. Neglecting to enter a book when taken from the Library, Fine, ONE SHILLING.” etc.
