Book Description

First edition. 12mo. pp [iv], 143 (1), 42 (2), 112. Full tan calf in a signed binding by Thouvenin, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, mark to front board, but a nice binding, and clean text. Bookplate of Georges Montandon to front pastedown, booklabel of Luciani de Contagnet Canorici, later bookplate to flyleaf recto, early note par Guillaume du Peyrat, purchase note to rear flyleaf dated 1837, explaining that it was bought at an auction for 2fr 25s. The imprint is false: it is actually printed at Brussels by Francois Foppens. An attractive work. Thouvenin was one of the finest of the early nineteenth century French binders, whilst Canorici was a well-known bibliophile. Brunet 2: 891.
