An answer to Arch-bishop Bramhall's book, called The catching of the Leviathan: never printed before. III. An historical narration of heresie, and the punishment thereof: corrected by the true copy. IV. Philosophical problems, dedicated to the King in 1662. but never printed before. [8], 339, [5]pp adverts. Some old damp has caused wear to the lower blank edge of a number of leaves, and leading edge of B5. No text is affected apart from slight loss of letters at the foot of K4,and L4. Bound without the frontispiece. Contemporary panelled calf. Joints worn and cracked but firm. Wear to the head and tail of the spine, and the comers. Armorial book-plate.

This is a single volume, containing Part I. Behemoth only. The other works listed on the title-page were published in a second part not bound in with this volume.
Published posthumously in 1682 by the London bookseller William Crooke, who had previously issued Hobbes’s Leviathan (1651), maintained a longstanding professional relationship with the author, and was instrumental in the circulation of his thought during the Restoration period. This collection followed closely on the heels of Behemoth, written in 1668 but suppressed from publication during his lifetime at the request of King Charles II; it first appeared in a pirated edition in 1679 before an authorised edition was printed in 1681.
