Book Description

This classic polar book has never been out of print and on offer is this 100 year old set of the US first edition in near fine condition. The book tells the story of the harrowing 36 day journey to collect emperor penguin eggs undertaken in the freezing cold and darkness of the Antarctic winter by the author and two other members of Captain Scott’s expedition. The book includes fine colour plates of Edward Wilson’s watercolours. It is bound in the original buff cloth with light blue endpapers chosen by Cherry-Garrard to represent the Antarctic landscape. The author lived at Wheathampstead near George Bernard Shaw who is said to have influenced the writing of the book. Other editions of Worst Journey and OTHER POLAR BOOKS AVAILABLE
