Book Description
A collection of the original illustrations together with the book signed by Brickdale, in a 21 x 31.5 cm full blue morocco binding by Bumpus, with raised bands and gilt stamped titles to three compartments. The pages of the book have been laid down and the title page is signed by Brickdale. Bound in to the rear are the original watercolours of the illustrations on 13 pages, 9 being initialled by Brickdale. The book together with a 1st Edition copy published by Daniel O’Connor in 1922 is contained within a custom made solander box with a leather titles label.
Fortescue-Brickdale was an associate member of the Royal Society of Painters in Water Colours from 1901, and was elected to full membership in 1919; she was elected to the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 1902, its first female member.
