All edges gilt 15 pp prelims + 160 pp. Colour frontis 33 full page illustrations including six Ponting photographs and about 50 other drawings in text most by Edward Wilson. Firm binding, clean and bright. Unmarked boards. It would be very hard to find a better copy. 'Very Scarce' Rosove 291.A2 Vol III is the book of the original single issues of the broadsheets produced at Cape Evans to amuse the men on the ‘Terra Nova’ Expedition. Cherry Garrard was the editor and typist and Wilson the main illustrator. The first issue was presented on Midwinter’s Day 1911, the second on 8 September and the third on 15 October . The content included poetry, humorous articles illustrations of sledging flags and caricatures. Includes Wilson’s moving poem ‘The Barrier Silence’ and Ponting’s hilarious tongue twister ‘The Sleeping Bag’.
