Folio, paper-covered publisher's boards with cloth spine and paper label; pp. 136, edges untrimmed; coloured frontispiece with dedication :This Grand Selection of the Loyal & National Songs of England, Published in Commemoration of the Coronation of King George the Fourth, Is most Humbly Inscribed, and with Greatest Permission Dedicated to the King s most Excellent Majesty, By Wm. Kitchener, M.D.: This is the first of two works planned by the author, the second being the better-known Sea Songs of England . The book consists of 10 pages of introduction by the author, 10 pages of notes on each of the songs and 116 pages of musical scores and lyrics. Includes such classics as : God Save the King; and : The Roast Beef of Old England.: Previous owner s signature : W. Bennett: on dedication page and handwritten title to top board. Cover somewhat worn and endpapers a little dusty but otherwise, internally clean and in very good condition. Kitchener led a colourful life - he claimed to be a medical doctor and was a celebrity chef of his day, credited with having invented the crisp - or potato chip - and Wow Wow Sauce.
