Book Description
FULLER, Thomas. The Holy State. [8], 122, 119-436, 436-441, [2]pp., engraved title-page, frontispiece, 2 engraved plates, and vignette portraits set within the text, all engraved by William Marshall. The engraved title page has at an early date been pasted onto the inner front board. The frontispiece has been expertly repaired at the margins, and the printed title-page is also expertly repaired at the head but with some loss to the typographic border. Small hole to L2. Early note at the foot of p.253 relating to Cardinal Wolsey. Contemporary name at the head of the front-end-paper, and another at the head of the ‘To the Reader’ leaf. Contemporary calf, rebacked by Sanders of Oxford in 1958. The boards are dry and rubbed, with areas of insect damage, upper joint cracked but firm.

ESTC R21710. First edition. "The profane state" has separate dated title page; pagination and register are continuous.
