First edition. 10 leather bound volumes. Vols 1 – 4: dated 1766. Vols 5 – 7: dated 1767. Vols 8, 9 and 10 are undated, as they are continuations (Vol 8’s page numbers follow on from Vol 7 and page numbers in Vols 9 and 10 follow on from the preceding volume). Frontispiece to Vol 1: “Boadicea, Queen of the Iceni, haranguing the Ancient Britons ” engraving by Samuel Wale (1721-1786) and Charles Grignion (1717-1810). Dedication addressed to the Right Hon. John, Earl and Viscount Ligonier.
