Folio. #89 of 675 copies. Greek blue quarter vellum by Bain, decorated with gilt wavy lines, over blue cloth. Edges untrimmed. Top edge gilt ‘on the rough’. Prospectus loosely inserted. With nine wood engravings by V. Le Campion and a series of new maps by T. Poulton. Spine very slightly faded (but much brighter than usual). A little foxing to the boards. Contents clean and fresh. Fine.

Printed in the ‘Renaissance’ style with the text in Plantin framed by notes in Perpetua and Felicity. Selected for the 1963 Printing and the Mind of Man exhibition as one of thirty examples of outstanding modern fine printing. (Nonesuch 102). A lovely copy with the original prospectus.
