Book Description

Small 8vo. First edition thus. First published in Carnarvon in 1881 in a tiny edition. Original dusty pink cloth printed in black. Eighteen pages of advertisements at the back and a tipped in promotion for ‘M. V. Dongois, agent’. Folding panorama before the title page. Folding map. Nine plates, including one folding showing the Avenue of Palms. Spine ends just a little rubbed. Corner tips pushed. Three tiny marks to the front board. Neat ink ownership, dated 1885, on fly. Folding panorama partially tanned. Contents clean. Near fine.
Dealer Notes
The Postscript to the Preface reveals that, ‘The Casino is now no longer a project. It is an accomplished fact.’ One suspects that the rot had set in. The guide records the charms of the garden and town before money took its toll. Uncommon.
