Book Description

The First UK printing published by Collins, London in 1933. The BOOK is in Very Good++condition. The binding remains tight. Light bumping to the upper edges. Mild fade to the spine ends. Neat gift inscription to the first bank endpaper. Light minor creasing to the top edge fo the upper text-block in places. Decorated end-papers and contents are clean with just a very light spotting to the page edges in a few places. The engravings are clean. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good condition and is the correct first issue. It is a little nicked and creased to the edge with two unobtrusive long closed tears to the front panel and a long split at the lower front spine fold and across the spine. However, it all comes together very well and remains very attractive in the removable archival cover. The 12 dramatic full page wood engravings, title vignette, 12 full pages, 12 initial letters and 6 tail-pieces are all complete. Clare Leighton's first book and still her most celebrated.
