Published by Smith, Elder & Co, London, 1905 - 1907. Thirteen volume set, uniformly bound by Bayntun of Bath in Red half leather binding with pink boards. Five raised bands to spine. Gilt lettering to compartments two and three, gilt flower decoration to other compartments within double ruled gilt borders. Gilt WMT initials to front board. Teg. Each 8ins x 5.5ins with marbled endpapers. Five of the volumes have a frontis portrait of the author. Each has plates and illustrations within the text. The artists include the author himself, Richard Doyle, Charles Keene, Frederick Walker, George Cruickshank, John Leech, George du Maurier, F. Barnard and Frank Dicksee. This edition contains biographical introductions by Thackeray's daughter, Anne Riitchie. A couple of volumes have light sunning to the pink cloth, but overall they are a VG attractively bound set. Nb combined weight 13kg pre-packing, expensive to post overseas.
