THE ART OF PAPERMAKING

Book Description
The Ashling Press, County Clare, Ireland, 1976. Limited edition of 405 copies in total. This, one of only 50 copies bound by hand in full leather with gilt decoration to upper board (another 355 copies were bound in half leather). SIGNED at the Limitation Page by the printer, Paul Kavanagh and by the paper-maker/publisher, Ian O'Casey. The First English Language Edition of the original French work by Lalande titled "Art De Faire Le Papier" published in 1761. Laid in is the original Prospectus from The Ashling Press.
Fourteen full page plates including one fold out.
This copy unusual, possibly unique, in that Plate Two appears twice. There is, laid in, a signed letter from the paper-maker/publisher Ian O’Casey, apologising to the original purchaser for the error and offering a replacement copy.
A beautiful production in fine condition.
