Hardback. Fairy tales beautifully illustrated by Warwick Goble. These tales collected by the Neapolitan Giambattista Basile contain the first European version of Cinderella and Razpunzel, though the later versions by Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm respectively are better know. In this collection these two tales are called La gatta Cenerentola and Petrosinella. Colour frontis and 31 further colour plates all with guards with the picture titles printed. Selected and edited by E. F. Strange. Red boards with gilt illustration to the upper board and gilt titles to the spine. 255 by 200mm (10 by 7¾ inches). Some surface light scratches and minor marks to upper board. Lower board has significant colour loss to a depth of at least two inches from the top edge. The cloth on the rear board has other marks, dents and has snagged and pulled exposing the board in one small area. Rubbed to points. Bumped to corners. Slight straining between the gatherings P and Q at page 225. Colour plates all present with their titled guards and are all are in excellent condition.
