SKETCH BOOK ~ EARLY DEPICTIONS OF THE STEAM TRAIN
Book Description
A fine watercolour sketch book, filled throughout. The images consist of a mix of amusing caricatures and more conventional depictions of contemporary life, often showing steam and factories. Frustratingly, there is no obvious signature, but there are several clues, seemingly placed teasingly by the artist. There is also no date, though it is not before 1861, the date on the stationers label. There are several really interesting sketches; for example the two showing steam railway trains, that of minstrels on the beach, toads and ducks ice-skating and so on.
