The story, probably set between 1792 and 1797, follows the three Dashwood sisters and their widowed mother as they are forced to leave the family estate in Sussex and move to a modest cottage on the property of a distant relative in Devon. In original decorative cloth bindings with illustrations by C.E.Brock and H.M.Brock and edited by R. Brimley Johnson, the illustrations are protected by tissue paper. Part of a set of 10 volumes (Pride and Prejudice (2), Mansfield Park (2), Emma (2), Northanger Abbey and Persuasion). Volume I Preface with a list of novels and a twenty page biography. Frontispiece portrait of Jane Austen. Six illustrations. Slightly dulled cloth boards and less prominent titling to the spine. A small hole to the spine. Sound binding All illustrations, tissues and silk ribbon are present. Pages are free from marks, tears and inscriptions with slight foxing to the endpapers. Pages rough cut to the fore and bottom edges and smooth and tilted to top. Volume II Seven illustrations and silk ribbon are present with no tissue paper to illustration on page 133, Slightly dulled cloth boards and less prominent titling to the spine. Crease marks to the corners of the back board. Sound binding Pages are free from marks, tears and inscriptions with slight foxing to the endpapers. Pages rough cut to the fore and bottom edges and smooth and tilted to top. Becoming increasingly scarce and highly sought after by collectors for its beautiful illustrations and historical significance as one of the first colour-illustrated editions of Austen's works, makes this book a wonderful addition to someone's library as a personal purchase or a gift. Will be dispatched carefully wrapped in bubblewrap and a cardboard box.
