Adam Gottlob Oehlenschläger (1779-1850) was a Danish poet and playwright, and often referred to as the Danish Wordsworth. His writings reveal his fascination with folklore, and in 1816 he translated Märchen by Musäus, Fouqué, Hoffmann, and Chamisso into Danish, thus stimulating such writers as Hans Christian Andersen. His tales include romantic adaptions from The Arabian Nights.
