WWI notebook 6 1/2'' of Hilary John Lloyd Greatwich comprising 240pp of pencil notes detailing the management, distribution and content of stores of the Royal Flying Corps at their depots dated Aug 27, 1917 to Oct 25th 1917 with some technical drawings. b. 18.10.1890 at Bridgnorth, Salop, Greatwich was educated at King Charles I Grammar School, Kidderminster. Enlisted Aug. 1914 appointed to Royal Flying Corps as motorcyclist at Farnborough then No. 1 Squadron, Brooklands. Gave lectures to troops promoted to Sergeant served in France Mar 1915-Jan 1916. Appointed temp. Sergeant Major served in France Dec 1916-Aug 1917. Appointed temp. 2nd Lieutenant Aug 1917 working at Regents Park Stores. Left RAF Apr. 1919 as acting Captain.
Dealer Notes
His record states ' since joining RFC [he had] a good knowledge of nearly every type of engine and machine used in RFC' He returned to Kidderminster as M.D. of Greatwich Ltd, Caldwell and Clensmore Spinning Mills, Kidderminster. He died 21.9.1929 and is buried at Chaddesley Corbett.
