Dealer Notes
A nearly complete run of Le Livre, an innovative publication for bibliophiles founded by Octave Uzanne, general editor and contributor, and Albert Quantin, publisher and printer with whom Uzanne shared the ambition of revamping bibliophily. In 1880 Quantin added relief and etching presses to his printing works with the aim of trying out new graphic processes, among which chromotypography. The magazine consisted of two parallel publications, the abundantly illustrated Bibliographie ancienne, a deluxe production, paired with the Bibliographie moderne, without illustrations and containing more text. The enterprise ran for ten years and provides today’s reader with a captivating immersion in the contemporary book world. Covered are book collecting, bindings, binders, illustrators, print makers, history of printing, collectors, collections, famous libraries, publishers, the literary scene, fine arts, book production and publishing, and all other imaginable fields connected with the book: auctions, jurisprudence, etc., etc., the whole illustrated with a rich iconography, completed by an apparatus of annual tables and indexes.
Barbier, Blades, Brunet, Drujon, J. Grand-Carteret were contributors, and many other figures, some well known and others lesser known today.
