Book Description

12mo. Two volumes in one. 1: 160 [2] (Contents), [2] (blank); 2: 242 [2] (Contents), [2] (blank). Contemporary full vellum. Early neat signature Ex libris Guilielmi Wauchope 1701 to front flyleaf, small modern bookplate to front pastedown. A good, clean example of the French translation of Federici s La verità vendicata dai sofismi di Francia. William Wauchope was a merchant in Edinburgh, and a burgess of the city. An uncommon item of considerable interest in itself, this example in its provenance exemplifying anew the seventeenth century Scottish inclination toward French language works and developments on the Continent.
