This mediaeval French farce which can be traced to the first half of the fifteenth century, first appeared in print in Lyon about 1485 with the first dated edition printed at Paris in 1490. It is a classic story of dishonest characters manipulated by lawyer Pathelin who is ultimately hoist by his own petard.
