FIRST EDITION. 1st printing. 8vo. (8.6 x 5.6 inches). Twelve full colour tipped-in plates, each mounted onto beige laid paper with a printed border and title. The colour illustrations, from Yeats' original oil paintings, include; The Farmer, Publican, Exile from Erin, Police Sergeant, Priest and Country shop assistants. Each plate with a tissue guard. A very good and bright copy in publishers green cloth with gilt lettering to front board and spine. Grey endpapers. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Cloth faded from green to tan but still an attractive and bright copy of this wonderful book. ----- This copy has the previous owners name, (Henry W. Kerr, who illustrated 'Scottish life and character' & 'Annals of the parish' for the same publisher) written on the front free endpaper.
