Book Description

The First UK printing of this illustrated edition published by Paul Elek, London in 1948, as one of the 'Camden Illustrated Classics' series. The BOOK is in Very Good+ condition with the original publisher's grey cloth covered boards with gilt lettering to the spine. Light pushing at the spine ends with some fading at the upper spine corresponding to the area of loss in the wrapper. Some light offsetting to the striking B/W illustrated endpapers. Toning to the text-block and the page edges due to the cheap quality of paper stock used. A contemporary penned previous owner's name and date to the upper half-title. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good- condition. Some loss, creasing and rubbing to the spine ends and corners. Light fading to the spine with some rubbing to the spine folds. Some edge-wear with creasing, age related markings and nicks in places. Some tape reinforcement to the edges to the verso. Central B/W illustration design to the front panel by Edward Burra which does not appear in the book. The wrapper present well in the removable Brodart archival cover. Striking full-page B/W illustrations by the acclaimed artist, Edward Burra. A very good copy of one of the scarcer 'Camden Illustrated Classics' titles, more-so with the fragile wrapper.
