First Four Minutes, Roger Bannister, Putnam, 1955, Signed, First Edition First Impression The story of the man who was the first to run the mile under four minutes, but also broad coverage of his athletics achievements and commentary on some of the controversial issues that he encountered during his career. At the time his achievement at the race at Ilfley Road, Oxford was a big an achievement in the athletics world as anything that had gone before. The book has been signed by Roger Banister without dedication (with best wishes) to the first free endpaper. A signed First Edition, First Impression in very very good condition. The binding is straight and tight, the boards clean and the lettering on the spine bright. The end papers and pages are free from marks, tears or inscriptions. Some sunning to the spine. The unclipped dust jacket, protected in a clear, removable cover is in very good condition bright with some darkening in parts, some rubbing / wear at the joints, a couple of small enclosed tears and some nibbling at the top and bottom of the spine. Becoming rarer with the signature and a piece of real sporting history. Will be dispatched wrapped in bubblewrap and in a cardboard box.
