First and only edition. Tall 4to (285 x 205mm). Engraved bookplate of Dora Vogt by Hans Ranzoni dated 1939 (Sagittarius astrological sign, platemark 58 x 49 mm) to front pastedown. The plates are printed on heavy stock mounted on stubs illustrating 116 envravings, mostly bookplates but also stamps and some larger engravings.

Six biographies of 20th c. Austrian copper-engravers, mostly of bookplates but also of postal stamps, banknotes and “Gebrauchsgraphik” (commercial art), with observations on their work illustrated in the plates. The work concludes with a commented mention of other well-known Cossmann students.
The work, the 3rd special publication of the Austrian ex-libris society is an 80th birthday tribute to Alfred Cossmann.
Alfred Cossmann ( 1870-1951), Austrian graphic artist, etcher and engraver, founder of the copperplate engraving revival in Austria in the early 20th century and well known for his ex-libris designs.
