Book Description

FIRST EDITION. 8vo, incl. b/w illustrations, colour plates (one by Crisp), plus a fold-out “colour wheel” to rear. Original green cloth, lettered in black. Extremities bruised, a few dints to edges. A few fox spots to early pages, else, clean and bright.
Dealer Notes
A pleasing first edition copy of the queer raconteur’s second book, Colour in Display, a manual for understanding the subtle and “good” use of colour (which “is like style. It is only when it is good that one does not notice it.”) in window and shop displays; in his introduction Crisp differentiates between display, fine art and commercial art, closing tartly: “for any of my readers who, though they may now have begun to take an interest in window display, may nevertheless still be wandering in that slough of artistic enlightenment into which even the worst art school might lead them, I will endeavour to make those differences clear”.
