Folio. First edition. All printed. Pp [x], 582, [6]. Title page in red and black, printer s licence on verso, woodcut capitals. Collated and correct, with double page map of Europe by Burnford (edges a little creased, not effecting image), engravings to text, plus plates showing Druid, Wicker Man, Phoenician, Human Sacrifice, Roman Emperors, etcetera concluding with seven coats of arms. Contemporary speckled calf, sometime rebacked (20 cent?), front endpaper replaced, rear endpaper lacking, edges with intriguing faded early marbling, corners worn. Battle engraving to page 122 outer margin missing, effecting lower part of image. ESTC R19100. Please note that one page with margin deficient (see photos). Binding is solid, occasional light marking to text, otherwise clean and crisp. Priced accordingly. Further images provided gladly upon request.
