Book Description

This is a scarce & fragile copy of one of Besley's wartime directories. It incorporates a list of residents with telephone numbers living within the boundaries of Exeter (in alphabetical order) at the beginning of that year. At the same time it incorporates a street index with lists of residents. The second half of the volume includes a Trades & Professions Directory and Advertisers Section. It pre-dates the first Exeter Blitz which commenced on 7th August 1940. As such it offers an invaluable source of reference regarding individuals & businesses that suffered disastrously during the subsequent bombing raids. Only a few directories from this period survived the raids.
