La Guirlande. Album Mensuel d'Art et de Litterature 1919.
Parts I-V. 27 pochoir coloured plates by renowned illustration artists Georges Barbier, Umberto Brunelleschi, Taquoy, Vallee, Bonotte, Domergue, Wegener, Stab and others. Most pages have in-text colour illustrations including head and tail-pieces.
Each issue is in its original printed wrapper with coloured and silver design by Brunelleschi. One still has its wrap-around-band. Each issue is limited to 800 numbered copies.
Brunelleschi was the artistic director of the short lived but significant La Guirlande. Jean Hermanovits was the literary director. Jean Saude, one of the foremost artists to explore and promote pochoir techniques, was responsible for the brilliant pochoir colouring. Texts by Lucie Delarue-Mardrus, Rene Boylesve, Jean Hermanovits, Abel Hermant and others.
George Barbier was truly a luminary of the time, becoming hugely successful in the world of design and haute couture fashion illustration, contributing to Vogue as well as Bon Ton and Journal des Dames. Brunelleschi worked in both illustration and stage design in Paris.
Eleven issues in total were published 1919-1921. Colas 1362.
These issues have been collated with the set in the Smithsonian Library, and accords exactly, apart from several additional advert sheets which are not shown in the Smithsonian copy. Also Part 2 has 6 plates as required, but one is not that listed in the volume. [La Lecon bien Apprise, has been replaced by another plate].
