A rare and attractive larger-format edition, each leaf measuring c.193 x 120mm. Possibly a Rare 'Reading Edition' 1860. This rare edition is known as the 'reading edition', owning to it being used by Dickens in his public readings of A Christmas Carol; hence the size of the book is notably larger than other editions.
4 etched plates with hand-colouring by John Leech and 4 plain vignettes after Leach. Advertisements at end. Stunning binding. Modern red morocco. Spine with red bands. Light scuff to front of upper cover. Upper cover with circular inlay of original decorative cloth. Gilt tooled borders to covers.
Ownership inscription 'Margaret A. Christie, Christmas 1873' to head of title.
Exceptionally rare and important edition.
