~ Published in Calcutta in 1792, this is the first London edition. During the Second Anglo-Mysore War rumours of Tipu’s capture of British soldiers and their treatment as prisoners, exaggerated or otherwise, started to circulate in England. These included Tipu’s parading of British prisoners for amusement, forcing them to be circumcised, and forcibly converting them to Islam. These accusations about Tipu’s treatment of his British prisoners were later published in a book by one of the prisoners, James Bristow.
