Book Description

The First full colour illustrated edition, deluxe issue, number '170' of 250 copies signed and numbered by E.H. Shepard, published by Methuen Children's Books, London in 1971. The BOOK is in near Fine condition with the original publisher's full green morocco by Zaehnsdorf and protected by publisher's printed slipcase. Raised bands and gilt titles to spine. The upper cover has a gilt stamped illustration of the characters from the books. All edges gilt. Slight toning to the spine as usually encountered. Free from inscriptions. Housed in the publisher's original pictorial slipcase which is in Very Good+ condition. A small stain to the front of the top edge, some slight age related markings with some light fading to the edges. Colour illustrations throughout by E. H. Shepard. Shepard, well-known by then for his illustrations of A. A. Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh series, was asked to provide B/W illustrations for a new edition in 1931. For this edition, Shepard redrew his illustrations, basing them on the 1931 illustrations, and added colour. Very collectible.
